GFBiochemicals announced today that commercial production has begun at its 10,000 MT/a capacity levulinic acid plant in Caserta, Italy.  The announcement was made by Marcel van Berkel at the 12^th BIO World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology in Montreal.

Marcel, GFBiochemicals Chief Commercial Officer, said, “Caserta is now the world's largest operational production plant for levulinic acid.”

A fundamentally lower price range is now possible using the unique technology because production is direct from biomass without intermediate process steps. This will allow the development of new applications and markets
